So Are We...

 I'm the lucky one

To stand outside
At 40 below
And soak in the beauty
Of blue and white glow

I'm the lucky one

To stand in the mist
After a pouring rain
Awestruck by the prism
Of God's promise again

I'm the lucky one

To stand in a meadow
Of fresh springtime green
And smile at a baby moose
Just newborn and clean

I'm the lucky one

To stand in Icy water
Up past my knees
And wrangell some Grayling
'Cause Bella asked please

I'm the lucky one

To stand in the moonlight
And count the stars
To see Orion, The Milky Way
The Dig Dipper and Mars

I'm the lucky one

To stand there and watch me
And my life right here
I want to make known
Perfectly clear

I'm the lucky one

Alaska Chick's Updates, No Rapture, No Zombies, Just Updates

Alaska ChickSince that Tuesday in January, this year I have been "involved" with HubSpot and Social Media & Social Marketing. Websites, blogs and blogging (oh my gosh!), FaceBook, LinkedIn and that terrifying Twitter! I'm looking into finding a tribe with Triberr, now that I also found yet another human (←I think) I enjoy being near (and boy, that list has always in the past been really short!).

It had become a little confusing as to what I am doing here. Yes, I started Alaska Chick's Blog to give folks in the big-big woUpdates from Chisanarld a chance to know us, to share what we have with people who will never be able to visit us in the Wrangell Mountains. Yes, I also started it, hoping for those people than could come to us, as remote as we are, to know we wouldn't let them down.

Danny Brown, as so many of you may know is one of the fine humans I follow around the Internet, taking notes, leaving comments, asking questions of. This had been turning over and over in my mind, this troubling piece of refuse disguised as an interested and even possibly potential client. What do I do?! I was reading Danny's article, "Why a Blog Disclaimer Is Just as Important as a Disclosure Message" and while it was typically (for Danny Brown) informative and enlightening, simply put, with examples(!), basically ALL the things I like about learning from him, it wasn't the article, but the responses and comments that made me realize that I had to DO something.

Credibility is a huge thing, Howie – and once you lose that, or people begin to question yours, you have a problem. Especially if you bypass some of the tougher reader questions on a blog post, which I’ve seen happen before…"

So, I've spent the last 10 days or so trying to get past my hurt feelings and figuring out what I should do and if I was being honest with myself, and really, you. My answer, after 4 boxes of tissues and lots of coffee? Yes. Yes I am doing, exactly what I believe is the best thing, for me. (I'm the one trying to not screw up my kids, write 3-4 blogs a week, dealing with a nasty-mean-commenter attacking Pioneer Outfitters, my Dad- Master Guide Terry Overly and me, take between 3-5 classesUpdates in Chisana a week on line, deal with the National Park Service, schedule and line out Summer Adventures and hunting schedules for the next THREE years-!-and make sure our newest Trainee Ruger is ready as well as getting ready for the new one.)

The Summer Adventures are going to be better this year than in all the years I've been with Pioneer Outfitters. I must be learning something, I'm seeing all sorts of things I need to fix agUpdates from Chisana- My Alaska Chick-letain! We invited the NPS to the Solstice Party (that always relaxes folks!). I also have never come so close to filling the Fall Hunting Schedule, other than the rare here and there, not to mention- into 3 years out! (YIPEE!) Ask me in 10 years and I'll give you an update on the kiddos!

The whole website is in place, now we just need to get it cleaned up and filled in. I still need to study up more on Twitter, I haven't figured out how to send a direct message! Looking for a Tribe on Triberr, I am being drowned by a new flood of valuable information and yet more potential cyber heros. (This would be easier, I think, if I could figure out "DM" Direct Messages!)

What has come from it, of it? We, I, have "met" some incredible and outstanding people. Real people. Good people, witUpdates with Alaska Chickh integrity, compassion, experience, creativity, humor and something they will share ~ for the asking. That's right, "asking", not "buying". Sure, a lot of them have something they will sell you, if that is what you want, but that isn't why (or the main why) they are there.

~So, moving on now...How has your week been? (Did ya miss me?)

Alaska Chick

I am, Alaska Chick.

“As you look, really look, and find no words; feeling both, your heart healing and filling to an inner bursting point and feeling that your soul has been laid open to the breeze and wind like a raw wound. This takes you beyond the physical, past the mental; this is the spiritual element. This is Chisana.”

My name is Amber-Lee Dibble and I am the Manager at Pioneer Outfitters. We are located in the Wrangell St. Elias National Park & Preserve, our nation’s largest, most unexplored, unexploited and untouched National Park.

I am Mom, the Manager and the lead Guide of the Extreme Pro Team Guides. Born a Capricorn 1, Week of the Ruler, on the Day of The Indomitable One.

Pioneer Outfitters has been taking people into the wilderness of Alaska on horseback for Spiritual, Pleasure, Gold Panning, Glacier Exploring and Historic Trail Pack Trips, as well as Big Game Hunting and Survival & Guide Training since 1924. We, our family and our horses have always lived here year-round. As we make our life, we make our “living.”
