Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick, The Fundraiser

Hey! Welcome back to the fire! Gather ‘round, gather ‘round, I want to share and chat with you about what has been going on lately. I would like to explain to you what #Stand4theManinBlack is all about.

Let’s chat!

The #Stand4theManinBlack fundraiser is to raise $250,000.00 to replace the airplane destroyed in the devastating fire that took place on September 16, 2013.

The community of Chisana is a small but very significant historically. It was the site of the last historic gold rush as well as the largest log cabin settlement at one time. Located deeply remote in the Wrangell Mountains and inside of the Wrangell St. Elias National Park it is a living testament to the incredible beauty of Alaska wilderness and the inspiring spiritual essence of a land that has never been rearranged to provide convenience to man.

It is in truth a wild that cannot be found in most places anymore. It is the rawness of true wilderness that draws people to it, to discover both what lays ahead and within each soul that chooses to explore and challenge themselves as well as the nature of the land.

Master Guide Terry Overly (The Man in Black) is one of the few remaining true and gifted Alaska Bush Pilots. The comfort knowing he is always a message away from being in the air is beyond explaining… until you are lost, hurt or alone in the wilderness.

The air charter companies are making a fortune from our hardship and what’s more is that by their own fortune being made, they are bleeding the life blood away not only from a near century old business but an entire community. At .40¢ per pound being charged for freight for food, supplies, horse feed and fuel and only on a “space available” basis for survival is reason enough for shame.

In the 22 years I have spent with Pioneer Outfitters, living here year round in Chisana, I have been witness to dozens of flights made for others in need, medically and otherwise by Terry Overly. He has flown funeral ashes; he has found lost people, pets and aircrafts. He has always been ready to help in any way anyone who needed help. And never once has accepted or asked fro repayment.

We are standing, not for personal gain, but for something bigger as we #Stand4theManinBlack. We are standing for each other. Please stand with us. Please consider donating to our fundraiser if you can and please share our fundraiser with your own circles and communities.

#Stand4theManinBlack is important. It is the most important thing, it is survival.

    • Aww!! So are you, Kaarina!
LOL, what we do has its moments, that’s for sure.
I simply love it. It and Terry have given me so very much; opportunities to learn and grow, a beautiful, spiritual place to live and raise my children, a way to make a difference in other people’s lives. Yes, we are blessed.
