Be. Fearless. Now! #MyThreeWords

Well! It took me a lot of soul searching to find my One Word! Now three? Fearless, is the One Word chosen to represent our 90th Anniversary year in 2014. It only follows that #MyThreeWords for 2014 are Be. Fearless. Now!

#MyThreeWords

Allow me to explain if by chance you do not have any idea what I am going on about. First, 2013 was an incredibly challenging and some may go so far as to say, “disastrous” year for us, though nothing that could be controlled or altered in any way (ie: weather!). And yet, each challenge and so-called disaster was also quick to show the blessing hidden in each instance. Upon reflecting on all the events of 2013, one word described perfectly all that we had experienced and all we had learned from those experiences. Love. It was the result and the path of each challenge we faced together as a Team.

Following this reflection, I decided to consider a theme for the coming year, which was not only the Year of the Horse (a pretty big deal in our neck of the woods) but 2014 was also our 90th Anniversary. Through researching themes vs. resolutions, which I had never really bought into, I found another connection in MyOneWord, there to help me strengthen my own relationship with God.

The snow-ball effect was in full force. Next came the #bealeader Resident Writer update with a request for what we considered our own “Word” theme for how we would serve and become better, stronger leaders. About that same time, I saw a tweet referring to Chris Brogan’s #MyThreeWords. Days later, I received notification through List.ly that Nick Kellet had started a new campaign inspired by this very tweet and #MyThreeWords.

Be. Fearless. Now!

Be.

There is so much inside each one of us. Most of it untapped, ignored and undervalued. As a trainer, some points that are stressed to our Trainees is that we can all make a difference, we do as humans need one another and that to Lead (or guide), we must all begin with ourselves.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ~ Marianne Williamson

Fearless.

As a firm believer in that the only excuse acceptable, and only acceptable once, even in our most private moments in our own minds is honest ignorance. Once something is known, we each know what should be done and what it is we should do. Doing less, or worse, doing nothing at all is a deliberate action that can only be harmful.

As I step forward to protect and guard those with me from danger, this is always a consideration. It isn’t a lack of fear. It is the acceptance of the weakness and knowing that I have the skills and ability to maneuver and succeed. It is the responsibility I have to serve. It is in every way, Walking the Talk.

We will be fearless in 2014. We will be kind and compassionate of others but we will stand Fearless in the face of all that moves us out of our own safe and comfort zone.

“Courage to me is doing something daring, no matter how afraid, insecure, intimidated, alone, unworthy, incapable, ridiculed or whatever other paralyzingly emotion you might feel. Courage is taking action…..no matter what.  So you’re afraid?  Be afraid.  Be scared silly to the point you’re trembling and nauseous, but do it anyway!” ~ Richelle E. Goodrich

Now!

That one kind of speaks for itself. We all find ourselves talking about great ideas, big plans and changes or improvements. Yet, so many never go any further than talking, planning or sketches.

We are focusing on today. Today is our biggest gift. We are initiating action and plans every day. Tweaks, adjustments and do-overs are part of every day. What we have learned is that if it doesn’t begin, NOW!, it may never begin at all.

“Do not wait to strike till the iron is hot; but make it hot by striking.” ~ William B. Sprague

“Act or accept.” ~ Anonymous

These are #MyThreeWords for 2014. Our focus and challenge for the coming months in the journey to become more, do more, be more; all for service to others.

  1. I LIKE the three, especially the “Now.” Why wait? Then it turns into later or never. Yes there are somethings that do have to wait..but the dream of being “Fearless” and doing it are still there!
The year of the Horse and being Fearless..what an Awesome combo!

    As Always ~*~
