Horseback Riding For Dummies

No, I did not just call you a dummy!

The “…For Dummies” books are a big hit, why not Horseback Riding for Dummies as well?!

Horseback Riding for Dummies

Many people come to us with little to no experience with horses or horseback riding. (Ahh, that’s just sad… poor them, poor, poor them.)

Ok! That is o.k. We can teach you what you need to know and all sorts of things you probably wont ever need to know, but you’ll ask and we will answer!

Master Guide Terry Overly wrote something years and years and years ago that to this day is one of my favorite things he ever wrote.

“You get rained on, snowed on, mosquito bit, saddle-sore, sunburned and maybe even bucked off old Twister.

What the heck, that’s just part of what goes with the territory.  Now, all joking aside we really have some good stock, something for everyone.

For those mellow people we have mellow horses, for those spirited people we have spirited horses and for those people who would rather not ride horses we have horses that would rather not be ridden.”

It still cracks me up to read it. It also made me wonder, are you afraid? Our horses will not hurt you.

We wouldn’t let you be unprepared in any way. They respond steadily and most, very gently.

It takes practice to get really good and really comfortable, unless you are really lucky and just “know” once we begin.

Some folks, I must also admit, it takes a long time to get comfortable and longer to get really good, because that comes with practice.

Sometimes, A LOT of practice.

We can teach you how to ride. We can keep you safe and help you find that special confidence and strength inside that comes from being able to ride.

We, our horses and guides, can take you into the Alaska Wilderness to ride across and over and around the tundra, rivers and mountains.

You will see things very few other people have ever seen, you will walk where there are no trails, drink water that comes from centuries old glaciers and if you look hard enough, you may find something you didn’t know you were missing.

“Toes up, heals down. Sit up straight. Weight on the balls of your feet. (Think, sit deep) Breath. Keep your hands down. I am right here.”

  1. Congratulations on a beautiful re-design of the site. Simply stunning. Now, do you have one of those horses that you put a quarter in and it sways forward and back? Just kidding. Cheers! Kaarina

  2. Kaarina! No, but we do have horses that will steal and eat your lunch, if you aren’t paying attention! Does that count? LOL.
