The Knots Prayer

Dear GOD:

Please untie the knots
that are in my mind,
my heart and my life.
Remove the have nots,
the can nots and the do nots
that I have in my mind.
Erase the will nots,
may nots,
might nots that may find
a home in my heart.

Release me from the could nots,
would nots and
should nots that obstruct my life.

And most of all,
Dear GOD,
I ask that you remove from my mind,
my heart and my life all the “am nots”
that I have allowed to hold me back,
especially the thought
that I am not good enough.
Amen.

"When we are debating an issue, loyalty means giving me your honest opinion, whether you think I'll like it or not. Disagreement, at this state, stimulates me. Your body will collide with the earth and you will bear witness. In this way you will be compelled to grapple with the limitless kindness and bottomless cruelty of humankind – and perhaps realize that you yourself are capable of both. This will change you. “When you come right down to it, my life is guided by two principles.
1. Do no harm to others.
2. Do not sit in silence while others meet harm.
There are no reasonable exceptions to either rule. Whether it is your friend or your enemy, and whether that person is on the receiving end or the giving end, do no harm to others and do not sit idly by while others meet harm.
That is all.”
