Monday Motivation: Make a Difference

Monday Motivation: Make a Difference

Being amazing isn’t easy. Taking risks isn’t easy, either. Both are necessary to make a difference in the world.

Pioneer Outfitters is dedicated to both; being amazing and making a difference.

“The thing is, we still live in a world that’s filled with opportunity. In fact, we have more than an opportunity — we have an obligation. An obligation to spend our time doing great things. To find ideas that matter and to share them. To push ourselves and the people around us to demonstrate gratitude, insight, and inspiration. To take risks and to make the world better by being amazing.”~ Seth Godin

This quote fills me with energy.

Monday Motivation: Make a Difference

Life is pretty amazing, in Alaska Chick’s life.

So, why work so hard for something that may never matter?

Because it does matter. You, matter. You, matter to me. You, are worth the risk.

What if I could share something with you, about us or something I have learned in the wilderness that could make a difference in your life?

“...we have more than an opportunity — we have an obligation.” and “To take risks and to make the world better by being amazing.

Make a Difference

Recently, I was asked and criticized,

Why this (post)? What does that have to do with hunting or riding horses? This is what makes you seem so busy. It has nothing to do with your business. You are just wasting time.”

I disagree. (obviously…)

I believe what we (Pioneer Outfitters) do here (in Chisana), is very important.

We live here, in the remote, fly-in area of Alaska year round to learn, grow and perfect our ability to survive and navigate this wilderness as anyone would their own back yard.

We cut wood and haul water, not only to stay warm and clean, but to stay strong and alert.

We range our horses in the wilderness, not only because of the tradition of horses always being here, but because the horses that carry our guests and clients are the toughest and most knowledgeable and sure-footed partners to have in the wilderness with us.

I also believe, and as I learn more, I feel certain I have an obligation to share, Chisana and the wilderness that surrounds it, the something it has to offer each and every person that I connect with.

Even here, online.

The lessons that I am suddenly aware that I have been indifferent to, for far too long.

Lessons and thoughts that may help ease difficulties for another person.

The promise of Alaska Chick’s Blog, to allow you to know us, really know us, doesn’t come from sharing simply great scenery or wildlife photos or hunting trophy pictures.

It comes from writing, a lot, to bring you into our day to day lives. To let you see and hear what we talk about, what concerns us and what excites us. To give you an opportunity to talk to us.

When you are here, with Pioneer Outfitters, you are the focus of our entire crew.

Making sure that as you experience Alaska, we make a difference.

To you and to those you encounter later.

We want to share the Alaska wilderness and all of it’s gifts with you.

To know, when you depart Chisana, you will want to share what you discovered with others.

Make a Difference

Do you want to experience Alaska, and all of it’s gifts? Do you want to experience it to its fullest, in safety and with people who understand Alaska?

We are looking forward to speaking with you!

Contact Us, and we’ll talk about YOUR dreams.

  1. Good thoughts Alaska Chick… too many people want to be “average”… I have lot count as to how many people I have said, “Average is either the best of the worst, or the worst of the best… which one do you really want to be?” Normally they end up looking at me funny and just walking away. “See you, in September…” (The Lettermen song that…)

    • Glen,
      Happy New Year!
Well, that’s one I have never aspired to…. “average.” Never will, either! That’s a promise!

  2. Well said, Amber! I like how you turned the question (“Why this post?”) around on the reader so that in the end, the guest is invited to share the same [wasteful – I think not] passion for the lifestyle that you do. Horses and hunting are wonderful, but they are not an end in themselves, they are a daily living that I am glad you share with us!

    • Christine,
I can’t wait till your travels bring you this direction… There is so much to show you and share with you.. I am so happy 2013 is almost here! LOL, be safe tonight!

    • Jody!
GASP! You are the first one to say that. THAT is what I needed, and didn’t even realize it until I read your words… I want to make a difference, inspire, help or just simply be there for people who read what I share… Thank you. I hope your 2013 is fabulous and I really hope we will get to know one another this year!

  3. It’s when you become real to me, when I can see myself where you are, that I connect and start listening. So, thank you for writing about all of it. It’s who you are. And that’s so cool!

    • Betsy,
Thank you, my friend. For all of it. Someday, when we are finally together, in body instead of only in heart and spirit, I’ll give you the hug back I have felt since you came into our lives…
      Happy New Year!

  4. I’m impressed and inspired. Having worked in health care for many years both in hospitals and teaching in my field at the college level, I understand what it means to feel you are doing something helpful to others. It is always helpful to self as well as others. I enjoyed reading you post.

    • Jim,
Well, mission accomplished. (Seriously! LOL) There is nothing more satisfying than sharing what surrounds me, what I have learned, what I have seen, with someone who wants to know… Nothing. Giving, sharing, taking a minute… it gives so much more to me than I could ever give away.
Thank you for being here, Jim.
Here’s to a fantastic 2013 for us all!

  5. Amber,
I’m in. I would like to see more women headed to Alaska to see you and headed to Argentina, or South Africa, or Europe to wingshoot with me. Anything I can do to help, let me know. If you want me to put something in my monthly newsletter, I will. You write it and I will include it.
    John

    • John, Me too! LOL…
I’ll check out your newsletter and see if there is anything I can add to it! Thanks!
I just want two things. #1- For any woman who wishes she could have a fabulous outdoor adventure to feel safe enough to have one and #2 for people to stop talking about “Women in the Outdoors” like it is something new or special. ….It’s completely natural and somehow we (us girls) were removed from what society has dubbed a “man’s world.”
I believe 2013 is going to be incredible… and the more of us who want to be incredible together may really make a huge difference.
      Happy New Year, John!

  6. All you have to do is look at my blog post categories to know you and I are long lost sisters.
“Random Crap I Said When I Wasn’t Paying Attention” is the category that everything non hunting/fishing/archery/firearms related falls into.
Just because I hunt/fish doesn’t mean I don’t love music or food or whatever.
When you blog; you are opening yourself up to others. You are allowing them a glimpse into YOUR world.
Hunting and horses are your life but they are not 100% of it. You are a multifaceted human being and I for one love reading about EVERYTHING going on in your little part of the world.
    :)
Keep rocking it sistah and may 2013 be even more kick ass than 2012!!!

    • Carrie,
I’ve kinda felt the same since the beginning…Long Lost Sisters… Well, we’ve found each other again, so it’s up to us now, babe. Get your funny butt up here and we’ll raise some “Random Crap” to add to your collection! LOL… Lord, can you imagine it? Boss will go nuts!
2013 is going to blow a whole lotta minds….

  7. Thanks Amber for all your positive and inspirational words. Hope I can make your way one day I would love to see your wilderness. Happy New Year!

  8. Amber…. you are the most “real” and the furthest from “average” person I have ever known! You are also the kindest, most patient (all my silly questions!) sharing, and Down to Earth true blue friend wth a heart of pure Gold, a person could ever ask for!

If someone could ask “Why this post?” Well they need to go back and read some more of your blogs! Evidently they have no idea who or what they have been missing!

Like Carrie Z stated..Long lost sisters. I bet there’s a few more of us out there ad maybe a brother or two also!

    As Always ~*~
