A Good Season in Alaska, The Holiday Season

Happy Thanksgiving!!

I hope each and every one of you and yours are doubly blessed during this holiday season. We wish for you all to have precious moments to treasure and many safe and awesome adventures.

Thanksgiving is a pretty special time for many reasons. Thanksgiving is a day to celebrate and give thanks for blessings and the harvest; the important words being “give thanks”.

We would like to thank you for being part of our world, here in Chisana, Alaska at Pioneer Outfitters. You have made a difference, to our business and to our lives simply by connecting. The opportunities we have had or will have to spend time together, whether it is online or in person is a blessing to us and I hope one for you as well.

For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food,
For love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.

–Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)

Holiday Season

Thanksgiving? What does that really mean to you? I am sure there are as many different answers as there are people in the world.

I believe that love, gratitude, family and friends will top most lists. These are the things we hold most tightly to and cherish above all else. Even now, as it feels our world is changing so fast.

This Thanksgiving we are blessed to be able to share our bounty with family, loved ones and friends. I hope you will close your eyes and think of us here at Pioneer Outfitters on this Thanksgiving Day. I sincerely wish that you could all be here with us and hope you know we will be thinking of you and yours on this day.

Please call or send an email if you so choose, we’ll be in a turkey-stupor most of the day! Have a blessed and safe Thanksgiving from all of us here in Chisana.

A Thanksgiving Day Prayer

Lord, so often times, as any other day
When we sit down to our meal and pray
We hurry along and make fast the blessing
Thanks, amen. Now please pass the dressing
We’re slaves to the olfactory overload
We must rush our prayer before the food gets cold
But Lord, I’d like to take a few minute more
To really give thanks to what I’m thankful for
For my family, my health, a nice soft bed
My friends, my freedom, a roof over my head
I’m thankful right now to be surrounded by those
Whose lives touch me more than they’ll ever possibly know
Thankful Lord, that You’ve blessed me beyond measure
Thankful that in my heart lives life’s greatest treasure
That You, dear Jesus, reside in that place
And I’m ever so grateful for Your unending grace
So please, heavenly Father, bless this food You’ve provided
And bless each and every person invited

–Scott Wesemann

So once in every year we throng
Upon a day apart,
To praise the Lord with feast and song
In thankfulness of heart.

~Arthur Guiterman, The First Thanksgiving

“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”  ~John Fitzgerald Kennedy

“Thanksgiving, after all, is a word of action.”  ~W.J. Cameron

“Let us remember that, as much has been given us, much will be expected from us, and that true homage comes from the heart as well as from the lips, and shows itself in deeds.”  ~Theodore Roosevelt

“We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.”  ~Thornton Wilder

“Grace isn’t a little prayer you chant before receiving a meal.  It’s a way to live.”  ~Attributed to Jacqueline Winspear

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.  It turns what we have into enough, and more.  It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity.  It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.  Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.”  ~Melody Beattie

Gratitude, an Acknowledgement of Thankfulness

> From Nancy Williams, aka CZN Gammy (Inside the Lodge)

“What if you got today what you remembered to thank God for yesterday.”

This quote was a little something someone left on my e-mail. That really made me question myself, to how shallow I had become. Everyday since then, I have tried to make a conscience effort to be thankful and grateful for all things.

A blue sky, a warm fire, laughter, music, soft snowfall, horse bells, good and loyal friends, a loving family, the list could be endless, I realized.

So in essence, I am thankful to the person who shared that message as a reminder to me to be more grateful and thankful for all that I have been given in this life to enjoy everyday.

~ Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Monday Motivation: Pushing Through

Pushing Through

Something we all have experience with, as parents, as professionals, as adults and even earlier for some of us, is “pushing through.” Finding the determination, the reserve of strength, the faith to keep moving forward when the part of you that just wants to stop, possibly even needs to stop, is all you hear inside Continue Reading
