A Professional Guides Values

Professional Guides ValuesA Professional Guides Values are as follows:

  • Honesty
  • Integrity
  • Loyalty
  • Commitment
  • Respect
  • Morality
  • Self-Discipline

As an Alaska Guide Trainee, part of the “hands-on” training puts the trainee in the field with real life Professional Guides and clients. Not the trainee’s clients. Not the Professional Guide’s clients. They are Pioneer Outfitters clients. Master Guide Terry Overly’s clients.

Professional Guides ValuesThe “hands-on” training serves many purposes and a few of these are:

  • Putting a Guide Trainee into the heart of the job, under direct supervision and with step-by-step instruction and direction from licensed Guides and Trainers.
  • Observing a Guide Trainee’s interactions and reactions to and with clients.
  • Observing a Guide Trainee’s interactions and reactions to and with the Licensed Guide in charge of that camp.
  • Observing a Guide Trainee’s interactions and reactions to and with other trainees.
  • Observing the Guide Trainee for the Professional Guide Values.
  • Observing skills and responsibilities that the Guide Trainee is accountable for.
  • Observing Guide Trainee with responsibilities in real situations.

Professional Guides ValuesThe Pioneer Outfitters Survival & Guide Training program focuses, instructs and sets a lifetime example of all that is included in the newly opened, Professional Guide Ethics Class.

Observing these Professional Guide’s Values in our Guide Trainees as well as the actions, interactions and reactions are outstanding indicators of outstanding Alaska Guides. Likewise, observing a lack of the Professional Guide’s Values or a noticeable lack of effort to attain and adopt these values are a reliable indicator of a future ethical failure.

The Pioneer Outfitters Survival & Guide Training program is a big part of our Fall Hunting Season. It has been a huge part of my own experiences this fall as well.

Talking the talk and walking the walk, are two entirely different things, when it comes down to the nitty-gritty. And it comes way down into the gritty of all the nitty during our Fall Hunting Season for the Guide Trainees in the field.

Professional Guides Values

Professional Guides ValuesWhen the “hands-on” training of a Guide Trainee takes place it is a highly stressful period for the trainee. The highs and lows of the reality of a Professional Alaska Big Game Guide are very quick and clearly illuminate the future of all Professional Guides and Outfitters of Alaska.

For myself, personally, as a Professional Guide and as a Trainer, it is a deep time of self-reflection and precise time of understanding. I consider it to be one of my most important positions.
