Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick, Bush Holidays

Welcome back to Campfire Chat! We are having a wonderful time chatting about the Bush Holidays that we celebrate together, here at Pioneer Outfitters. Melissa Kirkpatrick asked if (and how) we celebrate holidays here in Chisana as a family or if it is simply “business as usual.”

Family is everything to Pioneer Outfitters. Family is a group of people, bound together by a common thread. Wikipedia states; “One of the primary functions of the family is to produce and reproduce persons, biologically and/or socially.”  ~ Pioneer Outfitters Alaska Guide Training is exactly that and so much more. We are family.

Bush Holidays, town holidays; holidays are for celebrating and we enjoy celebrating together as much as we do working together.

As I thought about exactly what I was trying to convey with inadequate words, I found my own answer in Sarah Dressen’s Lock and Key.

“What is family? They were the people who claimed you. In good, in bad, in parts or in whole, they were the ones who showed up, who stayed in there, regardless. It wasn’t just about blood relations or shared chromosomes, but something wider, bigger. We had many families over time. Our family of origin, the family we created, and the groups you moved through while all of this was happening: friends, lovers, sometimes even strangers. None of them perfect, and we couldn’t expect them to be. You can’t make any one person your world. The trick was to take what each could give you and build your world from it.”  ~ Sarah Dressen from Lock and Key

If you have missed any of these fun Campfire Chats, you can see them all on the Campfire Chat Videos page. I hope you enjoyed this chat! Remember to leave YOUR question so we can gather at my fire again, together.

Since we have taken the video plunge, we are putting together and adding videos of all kinds to the Pioneer Outfitters Channel on YouTube. We will be adding more, weekly as we compile and sort all the go-pro videos. Be sure you check it out and subscribe so you don’t miss even one!
