Motivation Monday: Move It or Lose It

“Move it or lose it” is what my Grandpa used to say.

So-o-o… What are you up to? You are on the right path, you have invested in time, blood, sweat and most likely, a few tears… What are you doing, just standing there?

We all know what happens if you stop working out, going to the gym or watching what you eat. You lose what you had worked so hard for. Your definition isn’t as sharp, your reactions slow, you lose your breath and you gain weight.

You may not realize this, but your entire life is the same.

Everything that you work at, to achieve, to learn, to progress, weakens and fades without your focus.

It starts as a simple softening and moves in like a filter to overlap your goal, making it harder to see, a little at a time. Another filter slides over it and now the colors are harder to distinguish.

One day, you look hard, and all there is a shadow of yesterday.

Our Guide Trainees fall into this trap, most often during the Winter months.

As the work slows and changes, as routine sets in, as fewer guests and clients come in, they (trainees) loose focus on their “why.”

Some of our most excited and sincere prospective clients and guests are never heard from again, as their questions are answered with brutal honesty, leaving nothing to a possible disappointing surprise.

We really are that remote. We really are who we say we are. We really do what we say we do.

Occasionally, an opportunity shows itself.

If you do not see it for the blessing it could be, if you ponder too long on the reactions of the people around you or if it is something so far out of your normal daily life and comfort zone, the window may close. Opportunity lost.

We all make plans, have dreams, set goals. Research all the options, gather details. We can see it, the fulfillment and satisfaction, the happiness. Desire flows, needs crave and we share our ideas. But.

What we all need to remind ourselves, or hear it for the first time, that if we want it…. whatever it may be, we have to focus on it.

We have to work for it, one way or another. We have to allow it to root and grow inside us and pull it out, give it sunlight and nourishment (wake up and work for it) and help it bloom.

(Yeah. Spring is on my mind too!) All the best ideas, dreams, goals in the world, all the most inspiring words and the best training and motivation in the universe… don’t mean anything, if you do nothing.

Move It or Lose It


There is one more thing to this “move it or lose it” idea, for leaders.

You are being watched.

You are being imitated in your every action. As human as you may be, you are holding the ideal inside you.

Your dreams, your goals, your ideas all; become your team’s dreams, goals and ideas.

You hold other people’s dreams, goals and ideas in your hands and in your actions.

You hold other people’s dreams, goals and ideas in your hands and in your actions.

We are all connected.

What we do and what we do not do, affects others. In some ways, effects everything, everyone, everywhere.

Keep going. Move it or lose it. I know you can do it.

  1. Nice piece miss. I love the asap kicking nature. Isn’t it really self motivating after you quite a piece like that? Qe all go through thwart cycles of ups and downs so it’s nice to read stuff as inspiring as this.

      It really is… I love writing these, for myself and the crew, trainees and team as well. That cycle you mention, here in the wilderness can lead to bad decisions or slow reactions and that can lead to no more fun… or worse. We all need to stay in the “now” and use our yesterdays and accomplishments to boost us when we are dragging, but not to live in them.

      Hey! I wasn’t “railing” (or bitch-slapping!!) you! I was just thinking that some of the posts I had read about this…because I tend to be “disconnected” from much of the news and world goings-on, were all rants about how “BAD” Marissa Mayer’s decisions were… and yeah, at first glance I would chime right in, but really? As leaders and professionals… shouldn’t we also remember that there is WAAAYYY more than meets our (outsider) eyes and ears? I’m sorry, bud, if you felt I was smacking YOU around…it was just that on NOT ONE of the posts I read or comments in any stream I glanced at… did anyone say, “hmmm…”. Ya know?

      And anyhow, I didn’t chime back in, cause I was reading what everyone else had to say and thinking on it…but I don’t feel I have any REAL information to even form an opinion! LOL…
