Monday Motivation, You ARE Enough!

On a recent Sunday morning I woke up to a post in my email folder that began with these words,

We seem to always be asking ourselves whether how much of what we are doing at work, or in life, is enough. I know I ask myself.” By Elena Iacono

You Are Enough!

You Are Enough

You Are Enough!

This is certainly not a new thought to any of us. Most of us have this question running through our minds. As parents, as leaders, as partners or part of a team and as individuals simply trying to live the best way we can.

“If you want to touch the past, touch a rock.  If you want to touch the present, touch a flower.  If you want to touch the future, touch a life.”  ~Author Unknown

What struck me the most about Elena’s words was that I had just finished listening to one of our own Professional Guides, talk about how it made him feel to know he had made a difference in a young trainee’s life and future.

He told me that he had asked this young trainee what had come over him and created such a change in his attitude and enthusiasm towards the small responsibilities that not long before had been such a battle to accomplish and so far beneath his time and focus, that all had despaired that the result would be quitting.

With a smile, he leaned forward and asked me, “Do you know what he told me?”

He told me. “I see something, and I hear this tiny Glen-voice in my head pointing out that I can take care of it, make it right, pick it up, help with it or make it better. Then I do whatever it is and it feels great, because I can and I did. So thanks, Glen. I can do this. I can do this and make a real difference.”

You ARE Enough!

Alaska Chick’s Blog is all about the real deal.

No blowing sunshine up anyone’s bum, no hiding from the spray when the shit hits the fan; this is the place where I lay it all down and give you a clear window into our lives and who we are.

That was the promise I gave you when we began and I strive to live up to it every day for you and for us.

You have heard me “go-off” and you’ve heard me talk about things that come up that bring out a very unpleasant version of me to deal with.

You have been here with me to help me find the light and to help dry my own tears over the last 3 years.

During this time, you have probably also read at least one post I have shared with you about my own opinion of “Good Enough”.

But we aren’t talking about “Good Enough” towards our work and efforts today.

We are talking about being “Enough” as individuals, learning, growing, teaching, facing ourselves and our own fears everyday, lending a helping hand to others, putting ourselves out there and creating the best possible outcomes of each moment.

“It’s easy to make a buck.  It’s a lot tougher to make a difference.”  ~Tom Brokaw

Elena asked if what any of us are doing is enough.

I believe the answer is YES!

I believe, that as we work, learn, share what we know and live our lives to the best and whole-heartedly as we can; we are enough.

Are we making a difference? Yes!

We are making a difference to each other, to others that come into our lives, either for work, in our personal lives or those who come into our days, just for a moment. Just knowing this question is asked, by each of us, tells us that we are aware.

Respect your efforts, respect yourself.  Self-respect leads to self-discipline.  When you have both firmly under your belt, that’s real power.”  ~Clint Eastwood

We are aware that as we go about the details of our own lives, the pieces here and there, day after day, week after week and year after year; with all the changes that happen to adjust those details and sometimes completely replace them with a whole new set ~ we are aware that what we are doing needs to be enough.

There have been times; in all the years I have spent with Pioneer Outfitters in Chisana (over 20 years) that one of our team changes their own direction to a different path in their lives.

It can be heartbreaking to those left behind on the Path we began to walk together.

All the training, experiences, memories and knowledge shared; one might think, “For what?” or even more sadly, “What a waste of time.”

This is not the case. It was not a waste at all! All the training, all the knowledge shared and received, all those memories made; it is enough!

It is a gift, to be such a part in shaping someone’s life.

Every single day creates more of who we are, of who we are meant to be.

Something we said, did, responded to, initiated or helped someone else to do so, is enough, to someone else at some point or time.

“Would that there were an award for people who come to understand the concept of enough.  Good enough.  Successful enough.  Thin enough.  Rich enough.  Socially responsible enough.  When you have self-respect, you have enough.”  ~Gail Sheehy

That’s a pretty powerful awareness to have about what each moment may have inside of it.

Can I heal the world’s wounds, fulfill the world’s needs and spread joy and prosperity across the land; alone?

No. But I can touch and be aware of every single person around me, those who may see me online and all of those whom I may never lay eyes on or hear of in anyway ~ but who see or hear me or of me. I can do my ultimate all to continue to learn, grow and understand more every day and always Walk my Talk.

“More good has been accomplished by simple people seeking their own honest ends than by all the philanthropists in history.” ~Robert Brault

So can you.

And you!

So, yes, “…what we are doing at work, or in life, is enough.

YOUR motivation is to remember this:

  • If you are learning, growing, understanding and sharing, what YOU are doing is enough.
  • You matter so much.
  • What you do, matters so very much.
  • You are not alone.
  • You are enough… today.

Have a fan-tab-ulous day and week!!

  1. I now know that to think I am not enough signals a huge disconnect from God. I’m here to “make manifest the Glory of God within me”, as Marianne Williamson says so well. Just staying connected makes me feel loved and awesome.
    Great post!

    • Betsy,
YES! I remember it has always stuck with me (from the movie Ann of Green Gables when I was growing up) “To despair is to loose faith in God.”
I believe we ARE making a difference! Each of us, aware that what we do effects and affects those around us- as well as those we may never see who read our words… it matters. A lot.
Thank you, Betsy. Your words have lightened my own heart so many times.

    • Aww! Thank you, Ann!
It was a good question from Elena! We may not see the difference we are making, but I believe by being aware of how much it matters, what we are each doing, is enough. It’s never enough as in done- but it is enough, today.
