Strong and Serene, the Final Steps to Be Fearless

At the start of 2014 the team gathered here at Pioneer Outfitters and vowed to Be Fearless in all, for all of the year ahead.

Be Fearless! The words we chose for our focus, both personally, spiritually and professionally, for our support of #MyOneWord and for each of us to witness as individuals the changes that could and would come with diligence and dedication.

Throughout the early months of 2014, we explored together the entire main points made from the words Be Fearless… except for the last, Strong and Serene.

Strong and Serene

I saved these, without fully knowing why except for each post I did write somehow missed the point I was trying to make. Now I understand, it was for today. A brand new year, a brand new focus.. and yet, here I am, starting a week into the year. Not on the celebrated first day of 2015, but today.

To Be Fearless, one must also be Strong and Serene. I was not yet ready to begin again. To begin again, I understand today, is to be serene.

Serene is to be calm, composed, peaceful and untroubled; tranquil.

To be a good leader, a good professional guide as well we require this serenity to go out searching, day after day, to stalk such manner of critters much better equipped than man or woman and to walk away to begin again ~ as many times as might be needed.

To face and accept all that 2015 may bring to be learned, earned or discovered, took more than only the strength that I fought daily to instill into my body, studied to fill my mind and prayed to stay the path written for me long before I came to be, for my heart and soul. It required both of me; to be Strong and Serene.

So it is with these final two words I say goodbye to all 2014 was to and for us and look forward with all I was taught, all that was endured and all that was bestowed. No longer bleeding or in pain for what wasn’t but to look back fondly of all that was gained, by both the wins and the losses.

“I had found a kind of serenity, a new maturity… I didn’t feel better or stronger than anyone else but it seemed no longer important whether everyone loved me or not–more important now was for me to love them. Feeling that way turns your whole life around; living becomes the act of giving.” – Beverly Sills

Thinking about these words by Beverly Sills, the anger that is a heavy stone and constant presence inside my heart shifted and I knew I had changed directions suddenly, like the feeling you get in turbulent weather when the plane drops suddenly.

“Remain calm, serene, always in command of yourself. You will then find out how easy it is to get along.”-  Paramahansa Yogananda

“Faith is not simply a patience that passively suffers until the storm is past. Rather, it is a spirit that bears things – with resignations, yes, but above all, with blazing, serene hope.” – Corazon Aquino

And with this last and new to me quote I felt that weight I had been carrying these last months, the turmoil and feelings of unfinished business lifted and vanished; because here, are both the old and the new and my direction so desperately wanted.

2015 #MyOneWord is Faith.

    • Ye-gads! Yes, it feels good to be writing!
Lol, yeah, the serene part eludes me most often, myself.
Spaz, that is a familiar feeling and face, I will be looking so used to it, you are sure to be in good company!

  2. Dear Amber-Lee,
As always, you speak with eloquence and your spirit is beautifully dancing!
I absolutely love your definition of fearless and your reflections.
Whomever will be guided by you and your team this year will experience so much.
    It will be transformative!
This will be a year of amazing abundance for you, your family and team.
You are an energetic leader. Caring and always there for others.
    I appreciate you.

    • Johann, you absolutely humble me.
It is hard, for me at least, to know that some that read my words for what ever their reasons may be, that these words, the photos that I choose, will be as close as they will ever come to Chisana. It demands that I reach deep, edit, reach deeper, bleed… until I find the words that might come close in describing what I feel here. I take it very seriously. One might mistakenly think that some things I write- such as the Fearless series really doesn’t have anything to do with Pioneer or the outdoors, wilderness, horses, adventures or big game hunting; but it would be exactly that: a mistake. Everything I am, I am because of Chisana; everything I say and do, I say and do because what surrounds me demands it of me; everything I hope to be, ever, I do so because of you… you, whomever you might be, reading my words, dreaming of some part of my world.
Thank you for being here, Johann. It matters.
